The 2022 NFL Draft is about a month away.  Teams have been setting their draft boards all year (if not longer) and just finished signing their first waves of veteran free agents.  The Detroit Lions approached free agency by re-signing many of their own players and adding a big-play weapon in DJ Chark.  Now, they will turn their attention to the draft.  Here are what I consider to be the biggest draft needs Detroit needs to address. (Even though they are numbered, these needs are listed in no particular order).

Draft Need #1: Defensive End

I’ve lost track of the number of times NFL broadcasts have shown the Lions’ lackluster pass-rush numbers—often among the worst in the league.  Detroit hasn’t had a legitimate defensive front since the 2014 team that ranked second in the league defensively.  Romeo Okwara stood out before his injury, but recovering from an Achilles injury can take a while and you can’t expect him to play at the same level when he returns.  Charles Harris had a career year with 7.5 sacks in 2021, but the Lions need more from the rest of the group.
