Mason Greenwood: What More Do You Need?

Mason Greenwood’s Ex-Girlfriend speaks out on alleged abuse from Greenwood, releasing pictures, videos, and an audio recording that depict forms of domestic violence, assault, and rape.

After these allegations came out through Instagram, Mason Greenwood was arrested at his home in Manchester on suspicion of rape and assault.

When the news broke on January 30th, it was met with mixed reactions, with some saying that the woman was making up the story for money, and others believing her, saying that the alleged actions were vile.

Manchester United released a statement saying that they are aware of the “images and allegations circulating on social media” but would not make any further comment “until the facts have been established”.

This statement is ridiculous, there are crystal clear audio recordings coming from Mason Greenwood’s ex-girlfriend depicting someone that sounds exactly like Mason Greenwood saying the most vile things I’ve ever heard said to another human being, though at this point it’s hard to consider Greenwood a human.

This is not the tragic destruction of a career, this is justice being served. This is more than football, this is someone’s physical and mental health that was put in grave danger by a football player worth millions of pounds.Manchester United have not chosen to take action on social media to address the situation, but rather to ignore it completely, and act like nothing happened at all, only having a spokesperson issue a statement that reeks of generality.

It’s clear to most people that, since she was able to set down her phone and record, knowing that a situation like the one depicted would arise, this is likely repeated behavior from the footballer.

From the pushback that we’ve seen from a lot of fans, and the lack of respect shown toward the victim, we can see why a lot of women who might be in similar situations don’t want to speak up. The hate is brutal, and can be exponentially amplified when dealing with someone who so many have held on a pedestal, such as an England international.

All of this shows the rampant sexism that’s ever-present in the game of football, and that we’re a long way from having an accepting community.
