Why can’t the Cleveland Browns have nice things?

I want to know what voodoo making, curse creating fool has it in for this team? Did Art Modell make a deal with the devil? Does the league want us to fail? Let’s come back to this.

Sunday was such a game. The Browns won 24-22. Act 1 was our triumph. Act 2 was almost a tragedy. But we pulled out a win thanks to two big defensive hits from Clowney and Ward. The Browns had to win this game coming off the bye.  It was a do or die situation going into a playoff run. We needed Baker to land the ball.. Done.  He healed up as nicely as the Wolverine and looked great. We needed the Defense to come together.. Done. How cool was the Myles Garret touchdown? I never screamed so loud at my TV! Lastly, the Browns needed some impressive play calling. All week it was reported that Stefanski was going to possibly put a two man run offense into work. Well he didn’t and there were some shotty play calls if you ask me. I do not think that Stefanski is a detriment to the team but I do think we should consider an Offensive Coordinator that will work well with the coach and call the plays we need to successfully carry a game. Especially how many games we lost the lead on from running short screen plays instead of using our great running backs. Hard to think that Stefanski is going to win coach of the year this year but he’s got room for improvement. He needs to focus on being the head coach.

Maybe get rid of Haslam while we’re at it? Is that asking for too much?? I digress.

Aside from another week of ups and downs, things seemed really exciting. The Bengals lost. The Ravens lost and of course that crappy team to the east is in last place. As they should be. But Cleveland is a game away from being division leaders and we play the Raiders this week. What could go wrong? With a decent line up left of easily beatable teams, what could go wrong? Honestly, things look like nothing could stop us now.

Enter Covid stage left. That dark villain that has had this world in a chokehold for almost two years. As of the time I am writing this, 20 players have tested positive for Covid.

Among them are:

Baker

Keenum

Landry

Hooper

Nijoku

Travis

Willis

Teller

A slew of others and Stefanski…..again.

At this point, if you have a jersey, show up this weekend and you can play. Tim Couch made a post on instagram saying he could make a Tim Tebow style comeback. Let’s go baby, now is the time. But jokes aside, why the hell is this game still being scheduled to play? Last year the league moved games for less and Cleveland is having one of the biggest outbreaks of Covid this year in the NFL. At this point, it can not be about the game or the players safety, NFL owners make a lot of cheese having their “horses” keep playing; and I do mean horses. NFL athletes are paraded around like cattle with their “breeders” claiming what guys hit the hardest, or are the fastest, or the strongest. Contrary to popular opinion, we are still in the middle of the pandemic but it doesn’t seem to apply to football games. The Browns/Raiders game is a game that was always TBD on the schedule. They never knew when it was going to be played. But lest we forget where the Raiders play now… Vegas. Dare I say this has everything to do with money and less about Covid.

The NFL has said that, “ We have continuously evolved our protocoles to meet the goals of the safety of the players, coaches, and staff.” But have they? Are they doing enough to protect the people involved with this sport? As of 10 hours ago, USA today reported that 75 players across the league have tested positive for Covid. Remember I said 20 of them are part of the Browns. Thursday the team went through a whole practice without someone from the NFL administering a test as is protocol but as soon as the practice was over, the players were tested showing three more positive players with Keenum being one of them. Insert an expletive word here!

As we have seen, testing is important to stop the spread of the illness, but picking and choosing when they are tested,  when the procedure is much different, seems suspicious.  I think if we were a team with a big name player on it, this game would definitely be postponed. But it is the CLEVELAND BROWNS  and we can’t have nice things.

The good news is that if any player tests negative they get to come off the list and play. Let’s hope some of these guys got false positives and they will be ok. Today it appears the league’s heart grew five sizes and this game will now be played on Monday Dec. 19 at 5pm. Which deserves a big thank you but if anyone is from Cleveland and has tried to get into Cleveland at rush hour..Good luck heading to that game!  But at least we have a fair shot now.

In saying all of this I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about Baker and the last few days. As I mentioned Baker tested positive even after being vaccinated. But his love for the game, this team, and the city of Cleveland has been evident. On Thursday, Baker took to Twitter and called out the league for their “protocols” and treatment of the Browns and the potential game. In a three tweet post, Mayfield called out the league and their lack of safety and their penchant for “making more money”. It was a bold, ballsy move and it could have been a big scandal. He risked a drop in value in an already low market with a concerning season. He loves this team and wants nothing more than to win a championship for this city. I hope he gets to play Monday. He deserves it. That’s our QB!

This time last year, Covid hit hard and we made the playoffs. I think the Browns can pull it off. The sideline may be sparse, but their passion for the game is not. The Raiders ain’t shit. In fact they’re already saying it isn’t fair that the game was moved. Well buckle Raiders Nation…Here we go Brownies, Here.We.Go!

And to whoever put the curse on these boys…..I will personally run around a chicken sacrifice three times to just get us healthy, consistent wins.

I should order some KFC for luck!

Maybe we can have nice things.
